Year 8 Camp 2012

Wow, wasn't that fun. On the 4th of december 2012 we year eights at Pt England school attended to Ngaruawahia camp. What a great experience we had, flying across the flying fox, swimming through the lake, diving off the pool edge. And also to never forget sliding down the mudslide.

It  was such a great way to end 2012. The laughs we had and the joy we had was really worth it. I think my favourite thing at camp would have to be the food, because it was healthy and most of we all enjoyed it.

Flying fox. all I can say was ‘It was fantastic”! it was pretty scary at first but I realized that its all to have fun and to enjoy the end of year camp.

Swimming through the lake, was pretty freaky because of the leches and ells. Just thinking about the ells and leches was really terrifying. But then we had got told that ells are scared of us and they are not a big fan for rough water.

Diving off the edge of the pool and making big waves, was exciting and really awesome.

sliding down the mudslide, well really to be honest I didn't go on it and so I don't know how it was but ,watching people slid down looked really fun and exciting but. but inside me I felt scared.

I wish I Could go again and hopefully get to go back and try the mudslide but till then don't forget to give me some feed back....

Manaiakalani Film Festival

This year we had the privilege to go and watch an to take part in the Manaiakalani film festival,
we also had to opportunity to sit in the X-Stream screen at Sylvia Park. Watching all the talented kids showing off their movies was awesome. Bravery to stand up in front off a huge audience Pt England school, Tamaki college and lots others..

They were all so entertaining, I love the way how they present it good, and presented it without a fuss. Laughing and cheering, for different schools. When it first started I was excited, and amazed of what we were about to see. lights went off and the introduction had begun, and we were all ready to see the amazing rooms and schools movies.

My favourite would have to be room 18’s movie from Pt England and Tamaki College, called One Direction,  Because they made laugh and made it worthwhile to go and watch. I think most people had enjoyed themselves and had a blast of a time.  I hope next year I could go again and watch all the fantastic movies.

Thank you Vanila for reading my work.

Dangers Of Smoking

The dangers of smoking includes diseases of your heart, lungs and brain. Smoking increases the chances of getting these diseases.

Smoking may cause diseases such as; lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema. Your chances of getting these diseases is greater. Smoking is very bad for you and it's also not good for your health.

When you are smoking constantly it will flow through your body and form a disease called cancer. How do you think cancer is mad?? well When you get cancer it over takes your cells and make new ones that affect your body, this will then spread and also cause other diseases. You also can get Heart disease this is one of the serious disease that may cause death.

Each day 3,000 children smoke their first cigarette this is a very intense situation having the risk to inhale a smoke and knowing the possibility to your future, For example you could die earlier and get badly delseas.

Now I have shown you the dangers in smoking and the likelihood on how you could get diseases, So for thoses people who have started smoking well rethink and “stop” well that was my advice for today don't forget to leave me some feed back.

Sarah Walker

The London Olympics is finished and we have scored 13 medals all together. My favorite athlete would have to be Sarah Walker, the great BMX racer.

Sarah Walker was born in Whakatane, New Zealand, and lives in Kawerau, New Zealand. Walker started BMX in 1999 when she saw her brother, Matt, riding one day.

Seeing her racing and competing with other countries was very scary. Sitting on the chair cheering for  the great athlete,“GO, you can do it!”. She came second, a silver medal!  I saw her standing and looking so happy and ecstatic. Great job!

As well as competing in BMX events around the world, Walker has also been a sports ambassador for Beef + Lamb New Zealand since 2008.

So, hopefully, next time Sarah Walker can do even better and get a gold medal.

I believe that hard work, will power will bring success in sports, how you will succeed this? is that you have the desire and strength, and also believing in yourself,  just like all the athletes who are competing in the london olympic are also Striving to Succeed.

I think that both natural ability and hard work are important to an athlete, Why? because then they know that if they achieve that hard work, well then they all know that they are definitely moving towards a gold medal. It may be hard work, but you always say to yourself never give up, keep trying.

Most good athlete are born with speed, flexibility and coordination. You have may not noticed athletes who have been swimming since they were in kindergarten, other people who has been lifting weights since they were in primary. It really doesn't matter who you are just keep it up strive to succeed, Kia Kaha.

My Gold Medal

This Term we have been learning to achieve a gold medal, our challenge is to accomplish our work and finish it on time, being on task doing the right thing will get you to your destination. This is the gold medal that I received from my teacher from finishing off my work.

Go for gold

How do we go for gold?

Striving to Succeed and also trying to do your best. How you accomplish a gold medal is that you believe in yourself, and also to never give up. Taking charge of your actions and being focus will get you to your destination. Champions never give up. For starters if you want to reach to the top and archive a gold medal well you have to always turn up to your practices and to have the willpower to stick to your goals, being lazy is one to. Athletes who get to be part of the london olympic is huge it may be very hard but always remember the most important thing is not to win but to take part.

Jesse Owens Inspires Me

Jesse Owens was a great champion, he was born on september 12, 1913, in Oakvill, Alabama. He inspire me because this olympic athlete won three track and field event at the 1933 national  Interscholastic championship while he was in high school. As a young child jesse owens often suffered from sickness by his battles with chronic bronchial congestion and pneumonia.

In the early years people still expected him to work after the illness he had, So at the age seven he was picking up 100 pounds to put food on the table for family, that also inspires me because he had never gave up and he had always strive to succeed , that’s what I call a champion.

When I grow up up I hope I can win gold medal just like Jesse Owens.

The most thing I enjoyed  in the holiday was spending time with my family at the biggest theme park in New Zealand called Rainbows End. What a wonderful nice sunny day. Spinning round in circles on the Invader, screaming on the roller coaster, “ARRRRRRR” I thought my holiday was a blast. We ended up having lunch there to. When we were leaving me and my sister played in the game room and got lots of prizes. What a great day we had and I hope I can go there again.

What Sports Do You Play.

What kind of physical sports do you play? and what one would you prefer best, softball, rugby, Netball or soccer.

Netball is one of my best sports. It is fun and very cool. Getting the optional to play and winning is pretty cool. stepping on the courts gives me butterflies. When you are playing it does get hot and you do get sweeting trust me it's hard work. But at the end you like it or not that you either win or lose, it’s still about having fun and enjoying to learn new skills.

Rugby is also hard work, getting tackled from big bloopers. Training and practicing is what you always do before paying a game. When I first started playing I had butterflies flying around in my stomach like I was about to puke because I was scared and worried I was going to get hurt.

Softball is a great sports to play as well, it’s quite easy, but when it comes to batting and to be honest I don’t bat very far. Not catching the ball when other people batt that’s to is also not my thing either. Enyways As long as i’m trying my best.

Soccer is a very exhausting game to play and very tiring, pretty much all you have to do is kick a muddy ball around. Its is fun to and awesome. Sometimes I am nervous and scared of maybe getting kicked in the leg or something.

Sports is about having fun and enjoying the position that you and your team mates do either winning or losing.

"Camp"

“What a great start for 2012 camp”
The first activity's was baking, and guess what it was well... the one and only thing “SCONES”. The instructions was to get into group of five, the people in my group were , Tyla, Tule, Toreka, Oshania and don’t forget me. We were also told to find a recipe and bake it our self's. The first thing we had to was to clean our hands with the hand sanitizer. We included lemonade drink, flour, and pinch of salt, and a bottle of cream.
When we had finally finished the baking we had put in the oven with it
Pre-heat it to 220°C. waiting and waiting For the scones to cook, well we then thought instead of standing by the waiting for a long time that we should do some cleaning up. I was the washer and Tule was the dryer. In a split of time our scones were ready. We ran to the kitchen and checked it well at first we thought it was burning but we had realise the time was a bit early to have check. so after that we had ended up eating sum and saving some for the others for lunch “It was yummy”.

Netball

Arriving at the Netball courts burning, burning, so hot that I was about to explode.
With sweat dripping on the side of my face towards my feet.

Seeing the other class leave full of excitement but at the same time they were exhausted. Then it was our turn to play netball we also met a coach named Liz.
she was also a netball player her self.

We then started to practice our drills to improve our skills we started with passing the ball to our partners. It was pretty fun and quite easy. Ones we knew all the moves and trick on how to play Liz told us it was time to play a real game.

Ones we started, some of us we wearing bibs and others were waring no bibs well we started by getting in fourths and shearing the court, we all got quarter of the court. At the end, my team ended up winning.

over all we all had a great day with Liz and we learned and drills and new skills .

Duffy Show

When we walked in the hall I wondered why are we here. As soon as I saw a big box and 3 other people, "hmmm" this must be some kind of show. When these three peple reveled there names and what they were here for, I was thinking to my self, "this is going to be so cool and I bet this is going to be funny. As all the student sat down the show began.

At the duffy show there was 3 people who were acting, one was duffy and another one called scruffy he was duffy's little brother I thought he was the best one oh and there was one other named Everon who was sitting in the hall was charing and laughing there heads off as well as Marvel the main character of the book called "The Best Book in the World". They were also acting as other people.

They picked a couple of people to act in the show as books and a door an door bell, ever one was laughing when the pt England kids had to act in the show. There was singing a little bit of dancing and most of all funny acting. The main event was to tell us to read more and love to read because it is fun and you called end up with a good Currier.

At the end of the show we all had fun and we all loved it. Most of us didn't wont them to leave. Over all it was a great show and know I hope I have a good Currier .

Back To School For 2012

Welcome back for 2012. When I first arrived at school I wondered what class I would be in, and if I was in the same class as my friends. As I was walking to the office I felt nervous because it was my first day back here at school.

It was pretty cool being in Mr Harris's class for the first time, and being in the street for the first time. This year I thought if I do the right thing and stay on task as well as do my work I will have a good report and if my report is good it would help me in my daily life time.

The Treaty Of Waitangi

Early this year room 19 has been studying about the treaty of Waitangi.
We have been searching and finding facts all about the treaty of waitangi and why the treaty was signed, Well it first started like this, in 1840 before the treaty was signed, the Maoris and the Pakeha had wars and also traded muskets for food. So when it was time to sined the treaty on the 6th of February, about 34 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, Lieutenant-Governor William Hobson had also sined the treaty.
